History of Calenders

19:08
Gregorian Calender:
The Gregorian calender is the one mostly used nowadays. It is named after Pope Gregory XIII who introduced this in 1582. There is a leap year every 4 years (or more precisely, 97 leap years every 400 years). This means that the year corresponds closely with the astronomical year (365.24219 days) so that is gets just one day out of sync in every 3,300 years.

Gregorian months:
1. January - 31days

2. February - 28 days (29 in leap year)

3. March - 31 days

4. April - 30 days

5. May - 31 days

6. June - 30 days

7. July - 31 days

8. August - 31 days

9. September - 30 days

10. October - 31 days

11. November - 31 days

12. December 31 days

Chinese Calender:
Present-day China uses the Gregorian calender for most purposes, but traditional festivals, such as Chinese New Year, take place according to the ancient Chinese calender. Legend has it that this was stated during the reign of Emperor Huangdi in 2637 BC, and relates to the positions of the Moon and Sun.
